Visions in the Water, Lily Séjor
In some cultures, they say that water carries the souls and memories of those that came before us. If you now turn to the Colne, what will she say? Which piece of the past will she conjure up for you? Walk with me for a minute and I will share with you the visions she paints for me.
She first takes me back in time.
I see timber for Saint John’s, on barges way too small. I see mountains of stones on boats, floating with just hopes and a prayer. I also see life in the cattle that is carried down river; and merchants from afar who smile, their children by their sides, ready to start here a new life.
Flowing back to this day and I see on the way, students, lovers and friends.
What do you see?
How was your first step near the river? Do you remember?
Ease yourself into it. No-one said it need be accurate. It simply needs to feel. That is the only level of precision required. Your memories made here and the prints they have left are what you make of them.
History, memory and present collapse into a knowing—an experience.
Come back over here soon. I wonder what she will show you next.
