The Swan, a grade II listed building, in Colchester's Hythe Hill.
Local councillor, Michael Lilley said, He said: “I think that the building has an awful lot of history - not a lot of people know about it".
“When we became ward councillors a while ago, we learned how it used to be a courthouse with cells underneath".
"A few hundred years ago, people were given the death sentence there".
“It is an important part of the area, and it does deserve to be saved".
