CORMORANT, Jennifer Chante

Stroke of ink across the turquoise sky,
the cormorant flies, slick feathers flashing
white under October light.
I follow, half-blind, past the pylons,
as she descends onto the watershine,
where, with cadmium beak, she dips,
rips the glassy pond to diamonds
dazzling around her silhouette.
