Caroline Lamb Poem, Ed Lee

The people in Yorkshire said a sailor had drowned
washed up on the beach, his ship run aground.
It was her love, James Lamb, that they’d found.

His body was placed unmarked in the ground
while Caroline waited, praying he was homebound
the people in Yorkshire said a sailor had drowned.

The Hythe was alive. Rumours abound.
The Jabez had sunk when Newcastle bound.
It was her love, James Lamb, that they’d found.

The Mayor himself donated all of five pound,
charity for the loss was scarcely profound.
The people in Yorkshire said a sailor had drowned.

The news filtered through, it spread all around,
her health was "afflicted", she was never sound.
It was her love, James Lamb, that they’d found.

She lived four years as a widow spellbound
then leaving two sons she was placed underground
The people in Yorkshire said a sailor had drowned
It was her love, James Lamb, that they’d found.
